Our children’s organization wants to make things better for kids in our community.

There are many children’s organizations in Iredell County, North Carolina devoted to clothing children in need, helping them succeed in school, making sure they have access to education, and more, but we decided to address the issue of childhood hunger, especially over the weekend when school isn’t in session. At Food For Days, our organization fills this gap and helps children battling food insecurity have food to eat over the weekend, so they come back Monday morning nourished and ready to learn.

Like other children’s organizations, our nonprofit follows a certain process to identify children in need and help them with hunger over the weekend. Our process looks like this:

 • We work with teachers and in-school counselors to identify children who need our help the most.

 • Children who need food are sent home with a permission slip to be signed by a parent stating that they can receive our backpack meals.

 • Once we receive a signed permission slip, we send home a backpack on Friday afternoon filled with enough food to last the weekend.
