Our children’s organization wants to make things better for kids in our community.
There are many children’s organizations in Iredell County, North Carolina devoted to clothing children in need, helping them succeed in school, making sure they have access to education, and more, but we decided to address the issue of childhood hunger, especially over the weekend when school isn’t in session. At Food For Days, our organization fills this gap and helps children battling food insecurity have food to eat over the weekend, so they come back Monday morning nourished and ready to learn.
Like other children’s organizations, our nonprofit follows a certain process to identify children in need and help them with hunger over the weekend. Our process looks like this:
- We work with teachers and in-school counselors to identify children who need our help the most.
- Children who need food are sent home with a permission slip to be signed by a parent stating that they can receive our backpack meals.
- Once we receive a signed permission slip, we send home a backpack on Friday afternoon filled with enough food to last the weekend.
Helping local children keep their bellies full since 2011!
Our organization has grown significantly since we started in 2010, and today, we feed over 460 students every weekend during the school year. We also work with more than 15 churches, businesses, individuals, community organizations and foundations to fund and follow through on our mission of fighting food insecurity in our local area.
Whether you are an individual or a business looking for children’s organizations to help, your support can make a real difference in the life of a child who otherwise would go hungry. For more information about how you can help, contact us at Food For Days!
